Character Creator PLAYTHROUGH! :)
I've decided to go ahead and charge $1 for the character creator because I think it's neat, and I worked hard, and now it's in the most useful state it could be as an easy print and play or just a document to use. I decided to go ahead and create a character backstory by following my own instructions to the letter and showing it off!
I'm supposed to spin the wheel once per item for the player's history...I scanned the QR code with my phone and got the spinner up.
First spin, for Family, is Orange = Enthusiasm and/or Creativity
Second spin, for Upbringing, is Green = Growth and/or Harmony
Third spin, for Companions, is Orange = Enthusiasm and/or Creativity
Fourth spin, for Pivotal Event, is Violet = Power and/or Mystery
The bookmark now instructs to Synthesize that. So I will!
While I haven't thought up a name as yet, I've got some juicy prompts for her history:
My character was born into a large, boisterous family with far more love than resources. She and her 6 brothers and sisters always felt loved and appreciated, and their activities and accomplishments were followed with enthusiasm and support. My character was the youngest, and was doted upon by everyone due to her pleasant demeanor and intelligence. When she got older, in her teen years, she became involved with a group of artists, most older than her, and they quickly became enthralled with their appreciation of her presence and burgeoning talent with sculpture.
After several months of spending more and more time with this group, the best friend she had made approached her and asked if she would help with a project the group was working on that was top secret. While she didn't get many of the details of the project except that it was for an upcoming art festival, she was asked to sculpt a life size raven. Once it was complete, everyone was ecstatic at how wonderfully life-like she had made it. The time for the festival came, and she was brought into a specially marked tent claiming to be for the special and biggest fans of the fair. She saw her friends, but all dressed in purple cloaks fastened with broaches of pearl and gold. In front of her friends, the leader of the artists' group faced them, with the raven sculpture placed on a tall table before her, surrounded by candles. They proceeded to all sing strange songs, but the words somehow came easy to my character's lips. After an hour of singing and chanting and listening to a sermon about bringing more creativity to the world, the leader suddenly yelled, "Da'Na-eeso-lala" and everyone became silent and closed their eyes, my character joining them.
Once over, everyone shuffled outside after removing their cloaks. The weather seemed more gentle than before, less hot, and the sounds of birds and the mass of people at the festival reverberated in my character's head like deep wind chimes. The festival had taken on a new vibe, with booths everywhere having groups bursting into laughter and talking excitedly about their art. In the coming weeks, the production of the artists of all stripes who had attended the festival accelerated. My character continued to take part in these creativity rituals for another year or so until the group started to take a less harmonic turn when the leader grew selfish and arrogant. She never stopped being an artist, in particular a talented sculpture with moderately good sales.
OK THEN! Back to the bookmark generator. I've synthesized my chracter's background spins into a story. Now it's time to get her to the here and now with some general characteristics.
Time to spin again!
First spin, for Alignment , is Indigo = Wisdom and/or Depth
Second spin, for Personal Quest, is Yellow = Optimism and/or Fear
Third spin, for Role, is Indigo = Wisdom and/or Depth
Fourth spin, for Flaw(s) is Green = Growth and/or Harmony
And now, according to the bookmark, it's time to Finalize!
My character has now lived another ten years since leaving the artists' group and has been making a decent living off her sculpture. Over the years, she became quieter and started to listen more, and it's important to her to provide mentorship to other artists. These are often people with traumas that inform their art, and she listens and helps them channel that into creativity that helps them heal. For herself, she has the personal quest to eventually start her own artists' group, find out how to work the magic, and bring more creativity to the world. She does fear the quest will change her as it did to the leader a decade ago, but continues to learn and grow a following. While she does this, she has to master her need for harmony which at times turns her into a people pleaser instead of acting on her first instincts.
And there you go! It's a start, she needs a name, and maybe there's some stuff I should cut, or some stuff I should flesh out. But I love what the prompts led me to! I'd love to see examples of characters you've created :)
